We're here for you

23+ Years of Vision Care in Coney Island

Mermaid Optical isn’t part of a chain or a luxury brand. We are a long-standing, independent optical practice that has been caring for our community since 2000.

We speak English, Russian, and Creole, and we believe clear communication matters as much as clear vision. Whether you are here for an eye exam or just need help choosing glasses, you will find friendly faces.

Caring for the Whole Family

A Neighborhood optometry practice with Deep Roots

For over two decades, we have been located on the same block of Mermaid Avenue. A ground-level, street-facing shop with subway access nearby and a bus stop just across the street. We have seen children grow up, watched families expand, and helped thousands of patients maintain their vision and eye health.

This continuity matters. We are not here for flashy trends; we are here for the long haul. Our patients stay with us because they trust us to explain things clearly and treat them with respect.

Our Approach to Eye Care

Our goal is to make eye care simple and accessible, especially for patients navigating insurance, vision changes, or ongoing eye conditions. From the moment you walk in, our staff takes the time to listen, answer your questions, and ensure you understand your options, whether you are getting a new pair of glasses or reviewing test results.

We welcome patients nine and up, and offer services that include:

  • Comprehensive eye exams
  • Dry eye treatment
  • Contact lens fittings
  • Vision care for diabetes and high eye pressure
  • Glasses and frame selection

Multilingual & Inclusive Service

Brooklyn is diverse, and so are the patients we serve. Our team speaks English, Russian, and Creole, and we are proud to support individuals and families in their preferred language. Medical visits can be overwhelming, especially when language is a barrier, so we take extra care to explain things clearly and provide every patient with the time they need.

Our patient base reflects the community, comprising students, seniors, new immigrants, working parents, and long-time residents. Everyone is welcome!
