Eye Disease Management in Brooklyn, NY

We help patients manage chronic eye conditions through regular monitoring, high-quality diagnostic testing, and clear communication. Many eye diseases develop gradually, often without early symptoms. That is why routine screenings are critical. They allow us to catch changes before they affect your vision.

Macular Degeneration

This age-related condition affects the center of your vision, making tasks such as reading or recognizing faces more challenging. We monitor dry and wet forms of macular degeneration using non-invasive imaging and symptom tracking.

Cataracts

Cataracts cause the eye’s natural lens to become cloudy, leading to blurred or dim vision. We track cataract development and help you understand when a referral for surgical consultation may be needed.

Eye Diseases We Help Manage at Mermaid Optical

We provide in-office evaluation and long-term tracking for common vision-threatening conditions, including:

Glaucoma

Glaucoma causes damage to the optic nerve, often due to increased eye pressure. It progresses slowly and typically shows no early warning signs. We use visual field testing and eye pressure monitoring to identify changes early and prevent vision loss.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Patients with diabetes are at risk of retinal damage caused by high blood sugar levels. During a diabetic eye exam, we examine the small blood vessels at the back of the eye to detect swelling, leakage, or bleeding that may affect your vision.

Who Should Be Screened for Eye Disease

You may benefit from routine eye disease monitoring if you:

  • Have diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol.
  • Are over 60 years old.
  • Have a family history of glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetic eye disease.
  • Have had past eye injuries, surgery, or vision loss.
  • Experience symptoms like flashes, floaters, blurry vision, or eye pressure.

Even if you don't notice any changes, routine eye exams help detect silent signs of disease and protect your vision.
